Fulfilling urgent and unmet requirements in the IT sector

Market relevance

As virtualization sweeps the Information Technology (IT) sector, it:

  • Exposes major constraints of physical servers and desktops that were once accepted and tolerated
  • Teaches us how to better exploit these resources
We can now readily recognize such shortcomings in other aspects of computer systems and place a value on overcoming them.

DataCore is singularly focused on lifting the physical limitations imposed by the packaging of disks in storage devices so that greater value may be realized from these critical assets. Our customers measure the increased value in terms of higher availability, faster performance and greater utilization of their disk farms. Those benefits directly translate into tangible cost savings, substantial risk reduction and enhanced business productivity. You’ll hear them express it simply as peace of mind, knowing that they can always get to their data quickly, even as they take down, refresh and replace hardware.

Although lower forms of storage virtualization are in wide spread use as embedded firmware in sophisticated disk subsystems, it’s important to note DataCore’s distinction. Our storage virtualization software operates outside and across storage devices, whether they are smart, top-of-the-line arrays or dumb disk drives housed in basic sheet metal enclosures. Like server and desktop virtualization software, we segregate or abstract the functions from the underlying hardware. This enables us to provide a rich and stable set of storage provisioning, capacity management and data replication / protection services that survive the frequent turnover of disk models and brands. As importantly, these functions are portable to faster machines without any throw-away.

Distancing the software abstraction of storage from the discrete hardware devices enables our clients to allocate space and replicate data between mutually incompatible equipment from the same manufacturer or another supplier, yet treat them as uniform entities. That alone helps them to extend the life of investments while minimizing operational and process disruptions.
