Flexibility is a very visible byproduct of virtualizing your storage with DataCore Software. It's made possible through the logical separation of ideal virtual disks from the physical hardware on which they are provisioned. 

Once virtualized, many storage hardware constraints that tie your hands today no longer factor into your operational and purchasing decisions. As with server and desktop virtualization, we eliminate the strict dependency on specific configuration parameters, like firmware levels, channel protocols and inter-device compatibility. For example, DataCore lets you build high-availability mirrored pairs across different disk array models, even from competing manufacturers. Not because you wanted variety, but because they were the only ones you had access to at the time. The same is true when setting up disaster recovery sites, where you are willing to invest in premium gear at the main data center, but accept less capable units as backup. We replicate between them with equal ease.

Even the DataCore software is portable across servers. It’s not confined to a special appliance. When the need arises, you can move it to newer, faster machines, just as you would your database software. On the other extreme, it’s flexible enough to run on virtual machines alongside virtual applications to meet the needs of smaller environments that don’t consume much of the server’s power.
