SANsymphony 7.0 System Requirements

Additional System Requirements for SANsymphony 7.0

Software

Microsoft Windows Server 2008 with SP2 (Standard and Enterprise editions, 32-bit and 64-bit)
Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (Standard and Enterprise editions) are supported with SANsymphony 7.0 PSP3 or later.

Management Console: Microsoft Windows Server 2008
(Management Console must meet the minimum requirements necessary to run the operating system.)

Microsoft Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5 Redistributable Package (Available from Microsoft download site, search using keyword .NET.)
* Note, on Windows 2008 R2, the .NET 3.5 Framework may be added indirectly by adding the Application Server role using Role Manager.

TCP/IP installed and configured.

Internet Explorer 7.0 or greater.



Hardware

PC Servers (2 or more)

  • 1.4 GHz or greater x86 or x64 CPU*
    ^Itanium processors are not supported.

  • Two or more processor cores

  • Internet/LAN connection

  • 1 Boot drive/per server

  • 1 GB available hard disk space

  • 2 GB memory minimum

  • Two or more Fibre Channel adapters or Ethernet network cards for iSCSI.

  • Mouse/pointing device

  • Video card with minimum of 1024x768 resolution and "High-Color" or "True Color" modes (setting > 256 colors).

Note: These video card settings allow SANsymphony graphics to display correctly. Lower color resolution will cause bitmaps to display incorrectly but will not affect the functionality of SANsymphony.

Providing storage capacity to another application

Any storage device that is qualified to work with Microsoft Windows, by extension, can be managed by SANsymphony. For example, any of the following:

  • Directly-connected disk array (SCSI, F/C, iSCSI, SSA, SSD, SAS, SATA, ATA, or IDE)

  • Fibre channel switch-connected

  • Disk shelves connected to RAID controllers

Important Notes
  • For storage servers with iSCSI connections using Windows 2008 R2, a Microsoft hotfix is available that resolves a problem for a potential system crash in the Microsoft iSCSI initiator driver. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979711/en-us
  • Windows 2008 Microsoft iSCSI Initiator HOTFIX: A Microsoft hotfix MUST be installed on all Windows 2008 based SANsymphony storage servers and Windows 2008 application servers with iSCSI configured which does not have Windows 2008 SP2 installed. To download the hotfix, go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/961570/en-us. On the downloads page, select ‘Show hotfixes for all platforms and languages’. For Windows Server 2008 x86 storage servers, select Windows Vista x86 Fix258014. For Windows Server 2008 x64 storage servers, select Windows Vista x64 Fix258014.
  • Before installing read the Release Notes, and the Installation Guide provided with the software.
  • Do not install SANsymphony software on a Microsoft Cluster Node.
  • System cannot have domain controller services installed.
  • Configurations are governed by license and support parameters.
