Per Gartner’s report, “Backup and recovery vendors offer new capabilities to address ransomware attacks, but recovery will be impacted if these new capabilities aren’t used correctly. I&O leaders must ensure that key steps are taken to safeguard backup data copies and prioritize business-critical application recovery.”
According to Gartner: “To improve infrastructure availability and recovery readiness, I&O leaders must:”
- “Optimize responsiveness to ransomware attacks by leveraging backup vendors that clearly support ransomware prevention, detection and recovery features that best meet business requirements.
- Harden the components of enterprise backup and recovery infrastructure against ransomware attacks by routinely examining backup application, storage and network access.
- Prepare for critical application recovery to a systemwide ransomware attack by creating specific application recovery timelines, aligning appropriate backup storage media and accessibility.
- Supplement existing disaster recovery plans by implementing backup and recovery test plans dedicated to recovering from ransomware.”
