Using DataCore’s SANmelody(tm) storage virtualization software solution, Endurance Network Services has enabled the architecture and planning firm Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company (http://www.hewv.com/) to deploy a redundant SAN for significantly less cost than other vendor solutions. In replacing an older iSCSI SAN, Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas + Company was looking for more speed for its users and therefore decided on Fibre Channel technology for its new equipment. In the past, the firm had redundancy along the server line through VMware but its SAN was a single point of failure, which needed to be addressed in the new SAN. The firm was not interested in a more traditional approach of a turnkey, hardware SAN solution due to the fact that this older technology used older processors.

In addition, DataCore had a solution for us to reuse our old SAN equipment for a Disaster Recovery network to be placed in one of our branch offices as a backup – in case we lost our main facility for some reason. So far, the new DataCore SAN has performed very well – with no issues – and the speed improvements have been significant.”
For this firm of architects, the ability to do maintenance is now seamless and requires no downtime – delivering a tremendous productivity benefit for the firm. Now VMotion combined with SANmelody allows the IT staff to work while end users are still working and neither group is affected. The disaster recovery phase of the project is scheduled to come online in late September.
