DataCore VP, Carlos M. Carreras Will Show How Automated Storage Tiering Improves System Efficiency and Performance While Reducing Storage Costs

Carreras will explain the key advantages of automated storage tiering across a range of storage scenarios at the Flash Memory Summit 2012, being held August 21-23 at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif. This presentation will take place on Thursday, August 23 as part of Session 304-B (an open session), from 4:40 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. PT.
In his session, “Automated Storage Tiering: Optimizing Flash Memory in Today’s SAN Environments,” Carreras will discuss how organizations are deriving substantial performance benefits and cost savings from auto-tiering, whether in fully virtualized IT environments, private or public clouds, or more conventional physical configurations. He will also describe how auto-tiering is enabling businesses to fully leverage and optimize flash memory and SSDs in in today’s heterogeneous SAN environments.

Automated storage tiering is a dynamic process that monitors I/O behavior, determines frequency of use, and based on these findings, moves blocks of information to the most suitable class or tier of storage device. SANsymphony™-V, including newly released version 9.0, automatically “promotes” the most frequently used data blocks to the fastest tier while “demoting” less frequently used blocks to the slowest tier, including cloud based ones, thereby maximizing storage efficiencies and system performance while minimizing storage-related costs.
